Do you have the impression that you, your child, or your spouse is the way they are because of their physical makeup? Are you stuck in negative thought patterns that you know aren’t helpful but find yourself repeating over and over? Chances are that modern brain optimization techniques can help you think more flexibly and break out of old dysfunctional patterns.
I am a psychologist with 32 years experience. I use mainstream psychotherapeutic techniques to help people look at their feelings, think about their thoughts, and provide tools to help them change their lives. Over my career I noticed many of my patients could not tolerate psychotropic medication because of side effects. In a search for alternatives I took training with Daniel Amen, M.D., the author of many books including: Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, Healing ADD, and Healing Anxiety and Depression. This allowed me to identify brain types that can predict which vitamins and amino acid supplements could be helpful for my patients.
While this met with a good degree of success, I found myself frustrated because I did not have a way to help certain individuals directly improve their attention and impulse control. An exploration of the professional psychology literature led me to two other brain optimization techniques: Cognitive Training, and Neurofeedback. Incorporating these techniques in my practice has allowed me to help a broader range of people and to make the therapy I do more effective and efficient.
One of the best predictors of successful therapy is whether you like and trust your therapist. When you read about my experience you will get a sense of whether I am a good match for you. Call me at 248.626.8889 and we can talk about what you are looking for in therapy.
“My daughter is calmer, less argumentative and now is more willing to ask for help in school when she needs it rather than getting angry and shutting down. But what stunned me the most was when she came home from school and asked me how my day had gone…..she really meant it!”
